SOP NO. 116 De-ionizer

1.0 Environment, Safety and Health Precautions

a. Wear rubber shoes, goggles, gloves, full face shield, apron and mask while charging the deionizer.
b. All motor should be properly grounded to avoid any electric shock.
c. Manual shower is placed for human safety to avoid risk created by any mishap.
2.0 Procedure

a. Operation Precautions

i. Check water pressure at main line
ii. Daily back wash the pre filter tank for 15 minutes.
iii. Check all joint for leakage.
iv. If there is any leakage raise engineering work order for rectification

b. Operation

i. Open the valve of all the three columns in line for supply of water.
ii. Drain water for 5 minutes then send the intimation to QA department.
iii. After completion of work enter in logbook.

Charging of Cat ion Column

i. First back wash cat ion column for 10 minutes.
ii. Then pass the solution from cat ion column (HCl 30 litre and water 100 litre) by motor and adjust the valve so that it is completely passed in 30 minutes.
iii. The pH of cat ion column is now zero.
iv. Then rinsing of cat ion column by tap water till its pH becomes 2.5 to 3.

Charging of Anion Column

i. First back wash Anion column for 10 minutes.
ii. Then pass the solution from anion column having (caustic soda 8 kg and water 100 liter) by means of motor and adjust the valve so that it is completely passed in 50 minutes.
iii. The pH of anion column in now 14.
iv. Then rinsing of anion column by tap water till its pH becomes 11 to 11.5.

Charging of Mix Bed

i. First back wash mix bed column for 30 minutes so that the cat ions and anions are to be separated completely.
ii. Then charge the cat ion resin through solution having (HCl 15 liter and water 50 liter) by means of motor and adjust the valve so that it is completely passed in 45 minutes.
iii. The cat ion resin charging solution supplied from center and exhaust at button.
iv. The pH of cat ion resin is zero.
v. Then rinsing of cat ion resin till its pH becomes 2.5 to 3.
vi. The stop rinsing.
vii. Then charge the anion resin through solution having (caustic 2.5 kg and water 50 liter) by means of motor and adjust the valve so that it may pass in 35 minutes.
viii. The anion resin charging solution supplied from the top and exhaust at centre.
ix. The pH of anion resin is 14.
x. Then resin the anion resin till its pH becomes 11.
xi. Open the valve of top end, close the valve at centre and supply water from the bottom end and valve towards top when water comes from the top end valve.
xii. Disconnect water supply and connect air pipe (pressure 1 kg) to mix up the cat ion and anion resin.
xiii. Observe the mixing of resin from the glass.
xiv. Close the valve on top end and in line the three columns.
xv. Then rinse the all three columns for 5 minutes.
xvi. Finally check the hardness, pH, and chloride and send intimation to QA department.
xvii. Enter the charging time in logbook for record.

c. Maintenance

i. Back wash filter column daily.
ii. Check valves and joints for leakage.
iii. Check all the points etc.

d. Calibration

e. Validation

Not applicable.

f. Cleaning

Not applicable.
