STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE Deionized Water

De-ionized water is being tested with reference to USP-29/Page 2263

In order to get water from de-ionized plant first removes about 50-liter water and the get the sample and test according to specifications.

Physical Appearance: A clear, colorless liquid odorless and tasteless.

Tests Limits

Description A clear, colorless liquid odorless and tasteless
pH 5.0------7.0
Chlorides No opalescence produced
Alkali metals No blue color develops
Sulphate No turbidity produced


Procedure to test these parameters is as under

1. Chlorides: Take 100ml sample of de-ionized water add 5 drops of nitric acid and 1ml of silver nitrate. It must not produce opalescence.

2. Sulphate: Take 100 ml of de-ionized water adds 1ml of BaCl2 solutions. It will not produce turbidity.
3. Alkali metals: To 100 ml of de-ionized water add a few crystal of EBT (Erichrome Black T). No blue color develops.
Purpose
The analytical procedure of De-ionized water is carried out in accordance with the specifications.
